Green Construction Export and Investment Opportunities in Central & Eastern Europe

This event highlighted export and investment prospects for green construction and related industries in high growth regions and discussed both the business opportunities and the chance to make a timely intervention to mitigate unsustainable practices in fast-growing markets.

Steven Borncamp and Kevin Hydes provided a summary of multiple high growth markets. These markets share common characteristics, including significant new construction projected, a critical need for renovation and retrofit, and rapidly industrializing economies. In addition, Mr. Borncamp made a recap the presentations from the April 2010 Build Green CEE conference held in Budapest, Hungary.

Speakers:

Steven Borncamp, Founding President of the Romania Green Building Council, led the organization to become Eastern Europe’s first Established Member Council of the World Green Building Council. He has been active in the green building sector of Central and Eastern Europe since 2005, completing projects and organizing numerous initiatives and events to promote sustainable construction. Mr. Borncamp founded Build Green CEE in 2008, a multi-national conference and exhibition that will this year include the participation of 15 Green Building Councils exploring the emerging green building market of economies in transition.

Kevin Hydes is the President and CEO of Integral, which has completed a world-leading six platinum certified projects. He has spent 15 years focusing on green design and his sustainable vision led to the achievement of the first LEED Gold Certified project in Canada and the first LEED-EB Gold Certified project in North America. His enthusiasm has motivated the successful completion of 25 LEED Certified projects. He is former Chair of the World Green Building Council (WGBC), former Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and a co-founder of the CaGBC. Kevin is also a director of One Planet Communities, technical advisor to the Clinton Climate Positive Program, and a member of the Singapore International Panel Advisors (IPE).
