This course is an optional course for those seeking the "Green Building Professional" certification.

The course focuses on the fundamental principles of landscape design and management from a sustainable perspective, especially on the human-nature relationship. Thus, the following themes will be explored: definitions, concepts and sustainable approaches to the landscape; sustainable landscaping; climate-sensitive urban design: learning from nature, adding the positive effects of natural phenomena in design; the landscape projected in internationally recognized assessment tools and certifications demonstrating a high level of social sustainability and quality of urban life; case studies and best practices.

Concepts such as sustainable landscape design will be debated, assessing the impact it has on the environment and the benefits it brings to the community (from reducing water and energy consumption, improving air quality, improving human health, diversifying variants recreation). Sustainable landscaping is also an important component for the construction of internationally recognized projects aimed at obtaining green building certification such as LEED, BREEAM or DGNB.

Topics covered during the course include land analysis, design considerations, plant selection, and installation for good results and easy maintenance.

Trainers: Arch. Mihaela Hărmănescu, Ph.D


Lecturer at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism, Bucharest, where he teaches various subjects such as Sitology and Sustainable Development, Rural Landscape, Elements of Urban Structure and is involved in projects, studies, and educational research in the field. He holds a PhD in Urbanism (2013) with a thesis focusing on the sustainable use of the rural landscape as a cultural landscape and a master's degree in Architecture specializing in Sustainable Design and Energy Audit (2006).

She has gained professional design experience in international architectural and urban planning offices with sustainability in the field of sustainability, since 2009 he has been working in the MH Architecture Bureau, and since 2013 is Vice President of the RPG - RO Association on the Cultural Landscape Division.

Member of professional organizations: OAR, RUR, ASoP, APUR, ICOMOS Romania.
