  • Info session on the Green Building Opportunities in Sochi, Russia

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games is a $30bn investment project in the infrastructure of this Black Sea resort and mountain skiing complex.

There are over 200 investment projects including hotels, sports facilities, transport infrastructure (new international airport, high speed rail links, road links etc). Russia is committed to ensuring that these projects are as "sustainable" as possible - these commitments have been made to the International Olympic Committee.

As a result Sochi is a potential "hotspot" on the Black Sea for Green Development. Advantages for neighbouring countries could include offering your specialized green "expertise" on the local market or even shipping in materials by sea. A special port has been constructed in Sochi for this purpose.

Green Building Council Russia, a member of the World Green Building Council and working closely with the Romania GBC - is keen to offer every possible opportunity for their Green Building Council members. This working group is especially formed to look at opportunities in Sochi. It is led by Valeriy Vakulenko. Green Building Council Russia plans to develop a local presence in Sochi to facilitate the uptake of sustainable construction principles and business opportunities for green builders.

If you are a RoGBC member company you can register your company's products, technology etc and submit it to the Sochi Working Group to be considered to green builginds oppportunities related to this initiative. Please contact the RoGBC office for more details.

While not mandatory, you may also find it useful to attend the info session open to GBC members that is organized by the Green Building Council Russia on April 27, 2011, at 5pm, at the Zhemchuzhina Hotel in Sochi, Russia. For more details on attending the info session please contact Valeriy Vakulenko (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
