Circular Economy for Buildings

This course is organized in collaboration with the TU Delft University, and will be held in English. It is an optional course within the "Green Building Professional" certification platform.

We will discuss national development and investment projects for job creation and economic growth as well as the integration of the principles of sustainable development, green economy and circular economy.

Course objectives:

  • Circularity principles applicable to cities and buildings.

  • Relevant tools and assessment methods.

  • Legal requirements, European regulations.

  • Case studies: deep renovation, circular cities, urban regeneration.


Trainer

Elena Rastei

Environmental activist and sustainability specialist with over 10 years of experience in sustainability and green building certification systems such as LEED and BREEAM at both national and international level. Elena is the technical coordinator for the GREEN HOMES certification which certified or is in the process of certifying over 6000 homes.

She is the author of several articles and guides on the topic of green buildings, circular economy in buildings, zero waste cities and clean energy; she lectured for two years in “Urban Sustainability”- post-graduate program at the Technical University of Cluj Napoca.

She is the co-founder for Zero Waste Romania and a member of the board of directors for Zero Waste Europe. Some of her selected work in the circular economy field includes the addition to the national waste legislation of the „pay as you throw„ instrument, technical support in elaboration of local legislation regarding pollution prevention on construction sites and bespoke zero waste plans for cities across Romania. Elena's studies include Master’s programs in sustainability, environmental engineering and architecture.

 

Multicare Project

The content of this course is closely related to the MULTICARE project, where RoGBC is a partner. MULTICARE aims at boosting the creation of a resilient Europe by providing adaptation technological solutions (with a focus on residential buildings and social housing), and integrated approaches and tools necessary for assessing, improving and responding to future climate threats. In particular, MULTICARE will provide multi-layer modules, consisting of low-carbon modular components with standardized plug & play connections, to upgrade the resilience of buildings against multiple hazards, simultaneously contributing to sustainable development and improved quality of life.
